Update: After extensive testing, this bug is not as extensive as I first thought. Buffer overflow only occur with Group settings when grouping over 50 units. If this happens, only the Group settings is lost during firmware updates. LED Settings will still be preserved. As a precaution, you may still perform the Backup Settings Externally instructions prior to update. This only applies to updating to v5.27. Future firmware update beyond v5.27 will extend Group settings auto backup during firmware update to 210 units.
I just discovered a big firmware bug which would affect significant amount of user on v5.x. Normally during firmware update, settings are backup to secondary memory while the entire file system is being updated. Then when update is complete settings are loaded back from secondary memory. The bug is there’s a high chance of buffer overflow which prevented settings from being backup to secondary memory. I’m working on a fix for next firmware release, but updating to the fixed firmware may cause your settings to be lost. For this reason, I have remove/disabled firmware update for now. Once updated firmware is released fixes will only apply to future firmware. You must take the below actions before you update:
